Freedom Defense Council (FDC)

Headed by Merlynik Phylus, former head of the Covert Council in the old Republic. Made up of about half of the old Republican military – it was responsible for the military coup that dissolved the Republic and was one of the first factions to grab territory. It benefitted much from this move – it owned the capital Agalos within days of the USC’s declaration of war, and controlled over 5 provinces after a few weeks time. Its stated goals are a restoration of “True” freedom, a return to a “more perfect Republic”, and other nationalistic values. It is led by “The Council”, a group of generals and statesmen appointed by Phylus, himself the Chairman. The FDC also claims to have an entire Agkelos army friendly to it – a claim substantiated by the Archangel Michael seen ordaining Phylus the head of the council at its inception. Despite the heavy religious influence on the FDC, the New Unity Church of Liberty does not officially support the faction – and in fact most priests are heavily opposed to the council, Phylus in particular.
