Klayr "Nocturne" Kyris

An expert in modern covert warfare and specialist in all aspects of IWAR, Klayr Kyris is best known for leading the “Kingslayer” group in the UFPF's initial ranger corps. She is a member of 23rd squad (Wraith).

A full-blooded Arthenian, Klayr is the daughter of Pan and Violyt Kyris. She is 5'6“ with a light build, has auburn hair and violet eyes, and light freckled complexion.

Klayr is known to be brave, outspoken to a fault, and highly intelligent. She can also be abrasive, cold, and is known to be an avid gossip.

Klayr's parents had their daughter out of wedlock, but soon married after she was born. A working class family, her father did odd construction jobs and her mother waited tables at a local diner. The oldest of three daughters, Klayr was marked for high intelligence at an early age and excelled in schooling. At age six her mother became addicted to opioids, and at age eight both her parents were convicted of felonies related to drug sales. A ward of the state, Klayr was separated from her two sisters and fostered by a local Celic businessman - Corin Felx.

While he never officially adopted her, Felx bankrolled her entry and studies at Clemshire University in Filos. Before she could complete her degree in Networking, however, Felx died in an apparent suicide, leaving his fortune to her. Rather than finish her studies, Klayr suddenly applied to the Republic's covert service, and was mysteriously waved all requirements for college degree/etc.

While mission details are still classified, Klayr did two tours of duty in occupied Celic as a field handler for HUMINT assets. After her second tour she transferred to the IWAR division, and worked up to under-director running IWAR defense for the republic.

Klayr was an active participant in the FDC's coup against the republic, and for her loyalty was promoted to full IWAR director in the new government. She oversaw all IWAR operations, offensive and defensive, against all other factions of the war, as well as the USC. She gained a fearsome reputation as a mastermind of covert work.

After the Chaos Miracle Klayr married one Ulysses Polys, resigned her position in the FDC, and formed a private network company in Agalos City with Ulysses as partner. Together they worked to rebuild Agalos's battered infrastructure, and had a son.

In AE 240 she and her family were caught in an unexpected USC attack, and Klayr lost both her son and husband in the fighting. Klayr herself was crippled, but refused all cybernetic or therapeutic treatment. Re-taking her maiden name, she disappeared from public record until the formation of the UFPF, where she was named a Ranger despite still being unable to walk. She quickly rallied Rangers of like mind to her, and formed the “Kingslayer” ranger camp.

Operation Iron Angel

As head of the Kingslayers Klayr conspired and instigated a controversial secret operation to dismantle the USC and end the war overnight. The plan involved covertly implanting an inactive AI program in the brain, and under the consciousness, of the ranger Gloria "Serenity" Quintus, who had a previous personal relationship with the soon-to-be-immortalized Lucius Titus. Serenity's location in RANGECOM was then tracked and leaked under the auspices of a false defector, allowing an opportunity for Serenity's abduction. The plan would rely on Serenity's relationship to Lucius to ensure that she would be present and within wireless range of the ascension machines during Lucius's ascension. The AI would then activate, entering the divine machine in place of Lucius. Finally the AI, designed to simulate Klayr's anger at the USC, would disrupt the consensus model of the Divine Machines and issue orders to end the war and destroy the USC from the inside.

Based on the Kingslayer-leaked information Scipio Polian led an assault on RANGECOM with a battalion-sized group of Shadows. Their operation to abduct Serenity was successful and left hundreds of casualties. Klayr, intending to delay rescue attempts until after the ascension ceremony, confessed the details of the plan to the rest of RANGECOM and was arrested. She unsuccessfully attempted to convince members of Seraph squad to forgo rescue, and also refused to give up tracking location that could help her rescue.

During the ascension ceremony the AI activated, but for unconfirmed reasons did not inhabit the divine machine, leading to the operation's ultimate failure. Afterwards Klayr would resign as head of the Kingslayer and allow it to distance itself from her actions. Klayr would be stripped of her ranger authority and remain imprisoned for the duration of the civil war.

Klayr was never publicly seen again, though classified records list a release from prison under an unspecified parole agreement.
