====== Dusk Riders ======
Dusk Riders are groups of volunteer calvary militia that serve a variety of roles in [[polemos:4th_age:factions:dythos|Dythonian]] colonial society.
Typically organized in squadrons of a dozen riders that are combined into regional //banners//, they resemble a form of [[polemos:4th_age:factions:agothos|Agothos's]] Free Companies with some notable changes.
Banners, squadrons, and individual riders have complete independence, and organize mostly to avoid overlapping areas of operation.
Dusk Riders have historically never operated beyond the Banner level, and traditional calvary Free Companies are still raised in in the colonies for military use.

Dusk Riders are expected to be self sufficient and almost always operate in their local areas, performing a wide variety of tasks.
At their best they act as a form of Knights Errant, serving justice and keeping order in frontier colonies.
At their worst they are local strongmen and their tolls are nothing more than legitimized banditry.
At their most mundane they are mailmen, scouts, explorers, and hired hands.

Dusk Riders, along with [[polemos:4th_age:factions:dythonian_rangers|Dythonian Rangers]], are also among the few who range beyond Dythonian borders.
Many doubt the stories of individual Dusk Riders from beyond the Dusk Mountains as tall tales, but some Dusk Riders dream of a large expedition into the interior of Centras as a way to fulfill their group's destiny to explore and colonize to the ends of the earth.
