====== Jadyre ======
Capital city and commercial center of the [[..:factions:taschel|Duchy of Taschel]].
Though less populous than the cash crop powerhouse of [[.:Israla]], Jadyre's geography and history make it central to Taschel island.

Dating back from before the [[..:..:3rd_age:events:elesh_rebellion|Great War]], much of the island's coast is inaccessible due to colorful, but razor-sharp, barrier reefs that extend onto the shore.
Jadyre's harbor is one of the few suitable places for large ships to approach, and was the site of the [[..:..:2nd_age:factions:romalia|Romalian Empire's]] invasion of the island.
Old Jadyre was razed to the ground and rebuilt, with large vertical sea walls built to prevent the beach landings the Romalians used to gain their foothold.
Much of the city was built of stunning red granite sourced from an inland quarry, which during construction was seen as a nod to the seals and uniforms of the Romalian state and its conquering legions.

These sea walls, and the interior walls built to protect against inland attack by the [[..:..:2nd_age:factions:hamaret|Hamarettic]] natives, made Jadyre highly defensible at the cost of constrained living space.
A second set of interior walls was eventually built, and a third set was planned but interrupted by the Great War and collapse of the empire.

The Romalian Dux remained secure in Jadyre throughout the Great War and into the [[..:main|4th Age]].
Even when the sailors of the Tascheli fleet mutinied and founded the [[..:factions:coel-mahar|Coel-Mahar]] republic, they chose to flee to the ruined hinterlands of the eastern coast rather than test Jadyre's defenses.
