Elena is an female agent of the EB'G. The daughter of a Marquis and Marquiness of the EB'G, Elena was raised for martial life at an early age. Betrothed to Jan von Faerin Makinsen, the heir to the Margrevy of Faerinesse at age 10. When Jan inherited his title after the untimely death of his parents Elena's parents pressed for an early marriage ceremony. Elena was thus married at 14 (her husband 15), but continued with her training in lieu of “domestication.” At age 19 she entered the EB'G as a Margrevina, and eagerly sought to counteract a reputation of earning the title without merit. Within the first year of her career she found evidence that her husband had an indirect hand in his parents' murders, which led to his apostasy and exile. Elena began divorce proceedings but even 80 years later has not seen resolution of her marital status.

Since her first case, however, Elena has seen mixed success within the EB'G. Continually stymied by political machinations, at age 57 she disrupted a USC plot to assassinate the king that even involved members of the King's court. For this she was given the special title Valgengen (or King's agent). Rather than a boon for her career, though, the title led to Elena being given perfunctory and ceremonial roles.
