Senate Response

My fellow Agathonians, today we have seen events unprecedented in our nation’s history. I have watched alongside you all and felt the bewilderment and confusion of what has transpired. Never before has the Republic faced such a threat, foreign or domestic, to the peace and security of its citizens. Although as an Unitarian myself I am overjoyed by the apparent return of the legendary Archangel Michael, I find myself wondering how such a Agent of Justice could do so much to undermine the rightful government of the Agathonian peoples – the government you elected. We as your Senate have given our all in representing your will; does this so-called Herald of the Light have any such claim? Why should we as citizens follow a being that would condemn you for not joining his unilaterally declared government? Does he think we have governments ‘For The People’, or ‘For The People to Obey?’ This nation was founded on the idea that power over The People must be gained with their consent – not forced upon them as this so-called “Freedom Defense Council” has done. Have we not committed ourselves as free peoples to combating tyranny such as this, no matter the cost? We, the Senate, along with the Courts, will not abandon you as the Presidency has done. We will continue to carry on your will, not submit you to ours. But to this end we call on you, citizens of this Republic, do not surrender to the terror and violence of rebels, no matter what sweet words or vile threats they hide behind. In return, we, your Senate, along with the duly appointed Courts, solemnly promise to restore your rightfully ordained government in all Agathonian lands. However, with the president a member in a foreign and rebellious government, we as your Senate have elected three representatives to a Triune Consulate, which will act as executives and will be charged with the defense and unification of rightful Agathonian territory until elections can be held in a unified nation once again. In their first executive order, they have ordered those units of the Republican Army not lost to treason into action. They will liberate all of our constituents, and will avenge those of you who have lost loved ones to those murdering fiends. In particular we are bringing justice, even as I speak, to those who attacked the capitol building today, massacring hundreds. Make no mistake, The Republic of Agathos will survive this and every other trial set in its path. We will lead this world to a future far brighter than the Great Truth of Peace, one where we do not fall into using our liberty in the pursuit of barbaric world domination. We will use our gifts to enlighten those with the purity of our ideals, and the wisdom of our actions. I ask you all to help us in the realization of this grand dream.
