| Knight Six> We've got our first op, folks. Meet the R.P.S. Galena - she's a 300m long ethanol tanker who set off from Anliana yesterday. She's part of the commandeered merchant effort to keep Jab'Muthjal supplied with fuel and defensible in the face of K-H black-outs. Last night she sent a mayday saying she was experiencing rolling electrical problems. She broke from the convoy and set course back to Anliana, who sent a response confirming their ETA. However, in our record of the response signal we discovered an encrypted sub-encoding that included a priority keyword 'Asherah' provided by King Five. The rest of the sub-message was coded, but the keyword alone is enough to suspect USC involvement. The Bishops conclude the ship has been highjacked and could be used to ram the drydock in Anliana - something that could put the naval war effort back 2 years and almost guarantee a re-invasion by the USC. We sent an anonymous warning to the Coast Guard and port authority but thus far the only action we've seen is a helicopter flyby of the ship, which only yielded a light signal of All-OK and no signs of trouble on-deck. A news helicopter has also made a couple trips out for B-roll. Fireteams will deploy and secure the ship and see her safely to dock. To help break the coded message we also need to secure the cipher file from the hijackers - any one of them could have it so we need all network and memory implants undamaged. | **Knight Six**> We've got our first op, folks. | * Quake Team - Scholarship - The helipad on the stern deck has access to the command tower and bridge through a nearby stairway. Landing a helicopter will be obvious to all those on board. The power room is deep below deck near the middle of the ship but is near the craft-bay. Vessels of this class pre-war had surface radar as a standard feature and could detect vessels down to fishing trawler size. With impressment into military convoys the Galena may have had radar upgrades to even detect single person boats. Both the bridge and power room are designed with some anti-piracy measures in mind (sealable doors, etc.), and the route from the bridge to the power room takes several minutes, so a split/simultaneous assault would be needed to prevent hijackers from fortifying after the first shots are fired. If fortified cutting torches would be needed to breach. | * Quake Team - Scholarship - The helipad on the stern deck has access to the command tower and bridge through a nearby stairway. Modern ships almost always have a local wireless ship's networks that have access to all ship systems/functions, but anti-piracy measures typically include a 'panic mode' that moves all ship systems to leave wireless networks and only accept hardline connections. Another common anti-piracy measure is the ability of the power room to act as a sub-bridge in an emergency, allowing admins to lock out ship functions from the main bridge. |
| | * Cyclone Team - Bureaucracy - Anliana P.D. will provide both air and sea transport through police-marked helicopter and light craft. Officers will provide piloting services but will only be lightly armed and will be ordered to withdraw if overwhelmed. |
