A sleepy mountain town in the foothills of the Dusk Mountains. Lorithal sits in a valley where the headwaters of the St. Arthenia River and the road to the ancient Eleshite tower at Krynpolis. Originally formed as a timber and charcoal colony to build and feed the forges of Krynpolis, over time the town became more self-sufficient. The town sits upon the south bank of the river on a small shelf near the middle of the valley, where a shallow ford allows traders to cross the river. Orchards and a managed forest dominate the higher parts of the valley, while homestead farms and small estates fill the lower valley, fed by the ash of both the mountain and the highland charcoal kilns.
After King Nedafulasi's conquest of Dythos in AE 969 he decreed the colonial assembly moved from Genopolis to Lorithal, his birth town. To support the new seat of government planning began on Phylapolis, a new city two miles from Lorithal, on the far side of the St. Arthenia valley. Drawn from the new Sovereign's Dythonian name Phylas, the city was intended to be a model city and a blending of Dythonian and Qhashdean cultures.
