First Age - Age of Generations

The first age was a formative period, with man scattered across Polemos in tribes and small nations. Orthodoxy calls this the “Age of Generations” due to the fact that many ancient cultures and nations trace their lineage back to patriarchs during this age.

Man's unchecked use of magic brings several magical cataclysms, which the Orthodoxy believes were punishment from God. Most pagan religions take a marked anti-magic turn during this time.

The last and largest of these creates the impetus for the Romalian Empire, who ends up being the first long-lasting multi-ethnic empire, ruling a large portion of the Centras, subjugating much of Polus, and instituting a strict anti-magic regime for commoners. The founding of the empire, and their introduction of the Imperial Era calendar is widely seen as the start of the second age.

If you would like to add lore to this age please read these suggestions first.

  • ~0-2000 1A - The first generations populate the land and form tribes and proto-nations. Lifespans are very long, but the Great Forests keep populations from spreading geographically. Man discovers magic.
  • ~2000 1A - The Worldbreak, a worldwide cataclysm, occurs. Accounts vary on the particulars, but most agree that only a few survived (Orthodoxy limits the survivors to a single family under Nimas). From this point on lifespans drop dramatically, and the Great Forests slowly begin to recede.
  • ~2000-3200 1A - Generations are born through the patriarchs, which multiply into tribes, and tribes travel to the ends of the world to form cities and nations. Magic use returns over time as well, and various communities form to study and perfect its use. Some speculate that the Oran culture can be traced to this time period. Magical cataclysms occur frequently during this time, but none rise to the level of the first.
  • ~3200 1A - A small city-state in Northern Centras named Mali overthrows a nearby magocratic tribe. Setting up a militaristic empire they come to conquer many tribes and institute popular magical restrictions unique to the region, though their aristocracy continued to use magic in a more discreet manner. This “greater malia” or “Romalia” come to rule all lands north of the Centras Great Forests, and extract tribute from many on the Western Polus coast. The founding of this empire is commonly agreed to be the start of the second age.
