Kalolimethos
Sometimes called by the nickname “Kingshaven” the city of Kalolimethos is the 3rd largest seaport of Agothos. It achieved this by being the only deep-water harbor in the country that can remain open during the entire winter, as Anlia and Neporto usually close due to ice. For this reason Kalolimethos is considered to be of huge strategic value to the Kingdom.
Kalolimethos was founded in 4E 1053 by senate charter near the end of the Resettlement Period. It has grown to a population of nearly 6000 and has an healthy middle class. It is settled in a wide basin by a natural cape.
Being formed by senate charter, Kingshaven's government follows the pattern of many of its sister cities. It has a bicameral legislature: the lower house (The People's Assembly) is directly elected, while the upper house (The Lord's Assembly) is made up of the local land owners. A mayor is chosen from the Lord's Assembly, but his appointment must be confirmed by the lower house as well. For the most part Kalolimethos's government is free and fair, though in 4E 1236 the 11th Ranger Company was forced to emancipate the city through force. Still reeling from that embarrassment, the local authorities seem eager to please the lower classes to avoid a repeat.
It has the special title of “Royal Port” and has larger than normal fortifications funded directly by the Royal Engineering Corps. These include a 30 foot tall modern stone wall and castle usually reserved for provincial capitols. It is home to the 24th and 82nd Senate Companies, the 11th Ranger Company, as well as several free company militias. Total garrison size is around 2000 men.
Since Kalolimethos is elevated lower than the surrounding countryside it puts the city at distinct disadvantage defensively. To help remedy this a series of forts and watch posts line the nearby hills, manned by the 82nd Senate Company and overseen by members of the 11th Ranger Company.
