Magic

  • Magic is common, but subdued and very difficult to use.
  • Magic is socially unacceptable, but this rule is overlooked by the powerful.
  • High level casters are extremely rare.
  • Clerics ask their god for divine favor, which the god must opt-in to. Paladins are giving broad (but weak) divine blessings that gods must opt-out of when used.
  • Magic items are rare, but powerful.
  • Magic creatures are common, and feared.
  • Magic is strictly regulated, except for the powerful.
  • Normal folk readily protect themselves from magic using mobs and mundane violence.
  • Teleporting and planeshifting are extremely rare.
  • The only way to resurrect people is through necromancy. Any insta-death traps will instead put a character “downed” (i.e. 0 HP).
