Military Career
After running away from home at age 10, Alexander traveled to the northern frontier of his home country. There he met the local Arkhan Malio Heripsis and began working as a stable boy (Arkhan is an Agothonian nobleman much like an Earl). He was the target of brutal hazing by the other youth of the fort, which culminated in Alexander savagely beating the Arkhan's nephew in front of his liege. After a harsh punishment the Arkhan made Alexander a junior personal squire and began training him in the ways of war.
At 16 Alexander declined his Arkhan a position as Man-at-arms and instead filed papers of nobility at the nearest county office and acquired a commission to the a local free company of the royal army. How Alexander was able to convince the magistrate of his lineage is unknown, and of course rumor states he may have bribed the official. As a Lieutenant in the White Griffons, Alexander saw several border skirmishes but spent most of his time on administrative tasks.
After five years command of the company fell to Alexander after his captain was mortally wounded during a minor battle with a 39 Shard scouting force in contested lands. Again critics accuse Alexander of nefariousness (even skullduggery), but there is no evidence of any foul play.
Six months after taking command Alexander showed incredible foresight by leading his company to Agolos only weeks before the civil strife of 4E 226. During the incident Alexander broke his oath as a royal officer so the company could be re-chartered under the Senate's allegiance.
The switch of loyalty caused no shortage of criticism among his peers, but in the long run it would be the chief reason the Senate-in-exile submitted his name to the Akris Anistemi in 4E 254.
As an staff officer of the Neosoikos Alexander saw the majority of his combat experience. While the Arkis as a whole struggled with national cohesion and casualty rates early on his mixed units were extraordinarily successful.
